SAKIC CASE: CROATIA CURRENTLY NOT CONSIDERING REQUEST FOR BELGRADE DOCUMENT

BELGRADE DOCUMENT ( Editorial: --> 3057 ) ZAGREB, May 11 (Hina) - Miroslav Sumanovic, president of the Zagreb County Court, under whose jurisdiction is the case of the former Jasenovac concentration camp commander, Dinko Sakic, told Hina on Monday that "no evidence which is important to the investigation of circumstances of committed acts and criminal responsibility has been excluded". It has already been made known that the United States and the Simon Wiesenthal Centre from Tel Aviv will put certain documents on the Jasenovac concentration camp at Croatia's disposal. In the meantime, Belgrade has offered to provide the complete dossier on Dinko Sakic, in case it is officially requested. Belgrade media said the document contained a decision of the World Commission saying Dinko Sakic is a war criminal, as well as the names of victims and testimonies by witnesses. Zagreb County State Attorney Radovan Santek said the office of the Zagreb County State Attorney was for the time being not considering the possibility of requesting the document on the Sakic case. The director of the Croatian State Archives Josip Kolanovic said the Archives was in possession of documents offered by Belgrade adding he doubted "that Belgrade has something we don't, although one should not exclude that possibility completely". According to Kolanovic, the Croatian Archives too had the decision of the World Commission on Dinko Sakic and testimonies by witnesses. Kolanovic believes that commissions for establishing war crimes after World War II existed on different levels and that world commissions probably sent documents to the former Yugoslav State Commission.
