OKUCANI, May 3 (Hina) - Croat displaced from Bosnia-Herzegovina and
Vojvodina staged a peaceful protest in Okucani, western Slavonia,
on Sunday.
They asked the international community to solve the status of
displaced Croats who cannot return to their homes within the same
deadline demanded for the return of Serbs to Croatia.
The meeting, entitled "Human Rights for Croats Too", was organised
by the Croat displaced people's community from Derventa "St
George", the Community of Croat Displaced from North-West Bosnia
and the Community of Croat Displaced from Vojvodina.
The meeting was prompted by an incident in Derventa on April 23 when
Croat displaced were prevented to attend a mass.
Today's meeting is also a response to the attitude of the
international community in solving the problems of displaced
Croats.
The protesters voiced their absolute support for Croatian
President Franjo Tudjman and asked the Croatian government to solve
the problem of return of Croatian Serbs on the basis of reciprocity,
regulating the status of displaced Croats from Bosnia and
Vojvodina.
The protesters also requested the international community to
protect Croats in Serbia.
A ten-item letter was sent from the meeting to the Office of the
Croatian President, the Government and all important international
factors.
