BH PRESENTS DOCUMENTS BACKING GENOCIDE CHARGE AGAINST FRY

( Editorial: --> 9085 ) THE HAGUE, Apr 23 (Hina) - Bosnia-Herzegovina submitted 973 pages of material to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague on Thursday demanding that the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia be sentenced for the genocide committed in BH. Bosnia also demands that the ICJ order Yugoslavia to pay BH and its citizens full indemnity for violating the 1948 Genocide Convention. The documents submitted to the ICJ by Bosnian Ambassador to the United Nations Muhamed Sacirbej contain reports, notes from books and articles by independent observers, as well as conclusions reached by international organisations and the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia. The Bosnian Embassy in The Hague said the material also includes documents on connections between the Yugoslav Ministry of Interior Affairs and Bosnian Serb authorities and on close cooperation among Serb paramilitary units, the former Yugoslav People's Army and the Yugoslav Interior Ministry. Bosnia initiated the case in March 1993. According to Bosnia's representative for the case Phon van den Biesen, this is the first time the 1948 Genocide Convention is applied in a conflict between countries. Bosnia formulated its charges in April 1994. A year later, Yugoslavia stated its preliminary objections which the ICJ rejected in June 1996. When Yugoslavia denied the charges and accused Bosnia's authorities of committing genocide against Bosnian Serbs, Bosnia presented the ICJ with a large documentation. Yugoslavia may submit its response by January 23, 1999. (hina) ha 232121 MET apr 98
