ZAGREB, April 23 (Hina) - The Federal Republic Of Yugoslavia
Archives informed the Croatian State Archives that it could not
forward the publication which lists World War II victims. The
Yugoslav Archives recommended that the Croatian State Archives
approach the Yugoslav Bureau of Statistics, which put together that
publication.
Croatian State Archives put in the request at the end of March.
The Yugoslav Archives state in a letter that the Yugoslav Bureau of
Statistics in 1992 put out some copies of the publication, "Victims
of the War from 1941 to 1945 - a listing from 1964", based on
documents of the former Yugoslavia's Federal Commission for the
listing of war victims.
In 1964 that Commission undertook a survey on the territory of the
former Yugoslavia on the war victims and that material was
transported, as confidential, from the former federal republics to
the Yugoslav Archives.
"Following the 1964 poll, the Federal Commission concluded that the
published listing was incomplete and not of adequate quality so the
use of the material was prohibited," reads the letter from the
Yugoslav Archives.
The letter further states that nevertheless the Federal
Commission's material was collated into 16 volumes consisting of
about 11,000 pages.
When consultations on Jasenovac were held in New York last year,
some volumes of the listing of WWII victims were on public display.
