VUKOVAR COUNTY ASSEMBLY CALLS FOR RECONSTRUCTION FUND

( Editorial: --> 7461 ) VUKOVAR, March 5 (Hina) - The Vukovar-Srijem County assembly adopted a resolution on Thursday suggesting measures for improving the poor state of the county's economy, most of which had been under UN temporary administration until 15 January 1998. As a measure for revival of production, the assembly called for the establishment of an investment fund for reconstruction and development of the Danube region. The assembly also expects a more energetic participation of the Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the Croatian State Investment Protection Agency. The assembly expects the government to draft a bill on returnees as well as a special bill on the town of Vukovar, and present them to parliament. The assembly proposed the government establish a coordination body, consisting of representatives of government ministries and the Vukovar-Srijem County, for a more efficient resolution of economic problems in the county. The Labour and Welfare Ministry has been asked to urgently regulate the legal status of persons who were employed in the Danube region between 1991 and 1997. (Hina) jn mr /mb 052123 MET mar 98
