ZAGREB, Feb 27 (Hina) - Education and Sport Minister, Ljilja Vokic,
announced at Friday's House of Representatives session that the
Croatian President Franjo Tudjman has accepted her resignation.
Minister Vokic made this announcement after the Lower House
rejected, by individual voting, the final bill on education in
languages of ethnic and national communities or minorities. The
bill passed its third reading last summer but the vote has been
repeatedly postponed.
The adoption of this kind of bill requires a two-thirds majority.
However, only 63 representatives voted in favour, 20 were opposed
and six abstaining.
This bill can only be placed on the agenda again in three months
time.
Following this decision Minister Vokic requested to speak and said
President Tudjman accepted her resignation which she gave on 4
February.
