CROATIAN TV EDITOR-IN-CHIEF FREEZES ACTIVITIES IN HDZ PARTY

( Editorial: --> 4860 ) ZAGREB, Feb 26 (Hina) - The editor-in-chief of Croatian Television, Hloverka Novak-Srzic, on Thursday confirmed, when queried by Hina, that she had suspended her activities in the governing HDZ party after here election to the party's Main Committee last week. "I have frozen my activities within the party because I knew somebody would demand my resignation," Novak-Srzic said. The Forum 21 group - which gathers journalists working in the electronic media - on Thursday called for Novak-Srzic's resignation as well as that of another three Croatian TV editors, saying party officials should not hold posts as journalists or editors. Novak-Srzic explained she had suspended her party activities "because of our specific situation" even though she personally thought that in a democracy, nationality, religion and party membership should be respected as a private matter.
