'SARAJEVO WALL' REMOVED

( Editorial: --> 1131 ) SARAJEVO, 11 Feb (Hina) - Bosnian Serbs on Wednesday afternoon temporarily removed a wall they began erecting between the federal Croat-Muslim and Serb part of Sarajevo on Tuesday. The wall was removed after representatives of international organisations in Bosnia-Herzegovina said freedom of movement must be ensured throughout the country, including along the inter- entity separation line in Sarajevo. About 200 Bosnian Serbs started building the wall in the district of Dobrinja in protest against the arrest of Goran Vasic, suspected of killing Bosnian Vice-Premier Hakija Turajlic in 1993. The circumstances surrounding Vasic's arrest are being investigated by the International Police Task Force, due to suspicions that he had not been arrested by Sarajevo police but by members of an unauthorised secret Bosniak (Muslim) service. According to a certain Dragan Savic, who organised the building of the wall, the wall was removed in "understanding towards the international community which is trying to solve the issue of Vasic's arrest." Savic made threats with "the building of a real wall" and protests throughout the Bosnian Serb entity if Sarajevo police failed to surrender Vasic to the Bosnian Serb entity. Supporting his threats, he called on those present to "keep the bricks nevertheless." The Bosnian Serbs who today again gathered in Dobrinja were visited by the head of the UN mission in Bosnia, Elizabeth Rehn. According to the spokeswoman of the international High Representative's office, Aisling Burne, the High Representative is greatly disappointed that Bosnian Serbs act this way when progress has been made in the peace process. UN spokesman in Sarajevo Aleksandar Ivanko said the Bosnian Serb police were requested to ensure the removal of the wall and undisturbed crossing of the inter-entity separation line.
