TOVARNIK, 31 Jan (Hina) - The remains of 39 persons exhumed from a
mass grave in Tovarnik, in the Croatian Danube River region, were
buried at a local cemetery on Saturday.
The remains of 54 persons have been exhumed from the mass grave in
Tovarnik, while 45 have been identified.
The remains of three victims were transported to Zagreb and
Vinkovci, while another three were transported to Osijek, Vinkovci
and Tomislavgrad, where they will be buried.
A mass was served by Djakovo-Srijem Bishop Marin Srakic.
Srakic recalled the life and work of Tovarnik parish priest, Rev.
Ivan Burik, one of the victims of the mass grave.
Present at the funeral were representatives of Tovarnik
municipality, Vukovar County, clergy, police, the Croatian army
and Government.
Attending a memorial sevice were Parliament deputy speakers
Jadranka Kosor and Vladimir Seks, President of the National Trust
Establishment Committee Vesna Skare-Ozbolt and her deputy Ivica
Vrkic, Assistant Interior Minister Josko Moric and other
parliamentary representatives and county officials.
