TROGIR, Dec 29 (Hina) - Trogir-based "Brodotrogir" shipyard on
Wednesday signed a contract with the owner of Great Britain's
shipping company "Anglo-Atlantic Steamship Company" for the
building of two tankers for the transport of oil and oil products
for their branch in Sweden.#L#
The contract is worth US$55 million, and according to reports from
the shipyard, the foreign partner accepted Croatia's guarantees in
their entirety.
The two tankers, the first of its kind in the world, are specialised
for sailing great lakes, and should be delivered in February and
August 2002.
Also signed at the Trogir shipyard was a letter of intent for the
building of another two tankers specialised for great lakes, also
worth US$55 million. The signing of a contract will depend on how
fast the first two tankers will be built.
After the signing of the first contract, Croatian Bank for
Reconstruction and Development (HBOR) director Anton Kovacev
pointed out the fact that the British shipping company had accepted
HBOR's warranty reaffirmed the reputation of not only Trogir's
shipbuilding industry, but also of Croatia's banking sector.
Kovacev said it was difficult to have Croatian guarantees accepted
in the world because a strong West European bank's corroboration
was always required. Today's contract was the first time a foreign
owner unconditionally accepted a Croatian warranty, he said.
