ZAGREB, Dec 22 (Hina) - In the first ten months this year, there were 4.5 million tourist arrivals in Croatia, or 13 percent less versus the arrivals in the same period in 1998. Foreign tourists made up 3.4 million arrivals (17
percent less than in 1998), while Croatian guests made up 1.2 million arrivals (three percent less than in 1998), reported the Croatian Statistical Office. From the beginning of January to the end of October in 1999 there were 26.1 million overnight stays, and it was by 15 percent less than in the same period last year. Foreigners registered 21 million stays (18 percent less),and Croatians had 4.9 million room/nights (one percent less than last year). Slovenes had the highest number of arrivals in Croatia - 681,017 or eight percent more than in the same period 1998. They were followed by Germans with 521,463 arrivals (or a drop of 27 percent versus the same

percent versus the same period in 1998). Italians were the third
largest group with 518,739 arrivals or 29 percent less than from
January by November 1998.
German tourists registered the highest number of overnight stays
(4.5 million stays but it was a drop of 24 percent in comparison to
the same period last year).
The overnight stays of Slovenes rose by five percent to 4.2 million,
They were followed by Czech tourists with 2.8 million room/nights
(with a 19 percent drop).
In the first ten months of 1999 there were 375,214 entrances of
Croatian tourist marinas (seven percent less than in the same
period last year). Foreign boats and yachts registered 361,020
arrivals (seven percent less), while domestic ships had 14,194
cases of sailing into those marinas (or eight percent less).
