issued a statement dismissing claims from a recent declaration by
the Association of Croatian Film Directors (DHFR) saying Croatia
was jeopardising its own as well as the European cinematography
with its negotiations at the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
Generalised assessments and claims that the Croatian Government
was ready to accept commitments which would oblige it to cease
protecting the distribution of television programmes, the
recording of sound, or to withhold its support for the domestic film
industry, are completely false and have no basis in Croatia's offer
to the WTO, said the statement, signed by Economy Minister Nenad
Porges.
Any well-intentioned analyst can confirm that the offer explicitly
reads that in the policy of protection of its own and the European
cultural identity, Croatia shall have the same obligations as any
other European Union country in the area of audio-visual services.
