ZAGREB, Dec 10 (Hina) - GONG, the non-government organisation which has been the most active in this pre-electoral period, on Friday received for its activity a US$60,000 subsidy from the Japanese government. The Japanese government
last year set up a fund for the activity of local NGOs and local governments, Akihito Teruuchi, second secretary at the Japanese Embassy in Zagreb, told Hina, adding the GONG project was the fourth Japan was supporting in Croatia. The GONG donation was preceded by projects in Knin, Vukovar, and Beli Manastir. Teruuchi said the Japanese government had no political interests in the region, but wanted peace and stability. Japan considers Croatia one of the most important stability factors in the region, and for this reason wants the impending parliamentary elections to lead to true democracy and for Croatia to joint European integration, he added.(hina) ha mm
