SARAJEVO, Dec 8 (Hina) - Since recently a bookshop in the downtown
Sarajevo has been selling the book "Mein Kampf" written by Adolf
Hitler.
A daily in the Bosnian capital "Oslobodjenje" on Wednesday reported
that two or three copies were sold per day.
The bookshop "Sejtarija", which offers this book, claimed the
interest in buying this work of Hitler was higher, but its price 100
convertible marks was actually steep for potential buyers.
The owner of the shop, Esad Sejtarija, who recently obtained 30
copies of this notorious book, justified his act with his wish "to
enrich the offers" and denied any intention to insult anybody.
The head of the Jewish community in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Jakob
Finci, strongly opposed such an act. There is something which is
called booksellers' and professional ethics," Finci said warning
the initiator of the idea to sell "Man Kampf" that such an act can
boomerang against him.
Finci added that this bookshop had already offered different works
with anti-Semitic contents.
According to him it is not moral to speak that Bosnia was the victim
of Fascism from 1992 to 1995 and simultaneously to promote that
Fascism.
Irfan Ajanovic, the head of an association of Moslem (Bosniak) POWs
and people held in concentration camps in the latest war, told the
press that in his mind no book, even not this one of Hitler, should
be banned. However, such contents of disputable books should be
printed with obligatory adequate comments, this former POW added.
A translation of "Mein Kampf" was released by the "Croatiaprojekt"
publishing house a few months ago.
