KANFANAR, Dec 3 (Hina) - Croatia's Premier Zlatko Matesa on Friday
put into service a section of the Istrian road upsilon, at the road
hub of Kanfanar.
The construction of 35.5-kilometre-long section from Rogovici to
Vodnjan was done by the "Bina-Istra" concession holder. The
project, worth 211 million German marks, was finished four months
before the deadline scheduled by a contract on the concession.
The completed construction of this section is very important for
Istria County's economy and presents the first successfully
finished road concession project in Croatia.
On occasion of opening the first ("A") stage of the Istrian upsilon,
Croatia's Premier said the job was done thanks to a French
construction company "Bouygues" and the French Government, adding
that the second part of the job was still to be done.
The entire project should be finished, and the Croatian
Government's strategy is that it should take just one hour to arrive
from Istria in Trieste or Rijeka, two hours to reach Zagreb and
three to reach the Hungarian border, Matesa stressed.
He announced negotiations for next week with the "Bina-Istra"
company on an annexe to the contract, which should make it possible
that the building of "1B" phase of the Istrian upsilon begin.
The "Bina-Istra" Director-General, Charles Paradis, addressing
the present, said this company was interested in taking part in the
implementation of this project, although many difficulties had
occurred during the previous part of the construction.
Present at the event was France's Ambassador to Croatia, Albert
Turot.
