ZAGREB, Oct 28 (Hina) - Croatian Opposition parliamentary benches on Thursday stated many objections to the final bill on electoral units during Croatian National Sabor's House of Representatives session on the final bill on electoral
units. The most common objection was about Croatia's division in 10 electoral units. Mato Arlovic of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) said that considering its population, Zagreb should be divided into two electoral units and not four as the bill proposes. Arlovic stressed that the SDP was not in favour of the bill because it is a proof of electoral geometry and engineering. Hrvoje Kraljevic of the Croatian Social Liberal Party (HSLS) is also against that Zagreb be divided into four electoral units. on Thursday stated many objections to the final bill on electoral
units during Croatian National Sabor's House of Representatives
session on the final bill on electoral units.
The most common objection was about Croatia's division in 10
electoral units.
Mato Arlovic of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) said that
considering its population, Zagreb should be divided into two
electoral units and not four as the bill proposes. Arlovic stressed
that the SDP was not in favour of the bill because it is a proof of
electoral geometry and engineering.
Hrvoje Kraljevic of the Croatian Social Liberal Party (HSLS) is
also against that Zagreb be divided into four electoral units. He
called on the HDZ to forward to representatives lists of voters in
in electoral units along with the number of voters.
Ante Tulic of the Liberal party (LS) also believes that fact that
the HDZ failed to forward lists of voters represents a problem.
There is a great difference between the number of voters and voters'
registers because voters' registers are not updated, he stressed.
Srecko Bijelic of the Croatian People's Party/Istrian Democratic
Forum (HNS/IDF) also believe that 10 electoral units represent
engineering.
The electoral law should not be changed ahead of every election,
said Marinko Filipovic of the Croatian Peasants' Party (HSS). The
HSS never denied Diaspora's right to vote, however, it advocates
that the right be realised in one of electoral units in Croatia and
not in a separate one.
Josko Kovac of the Croatian Peasants' People's Party (HSNS)
proposed that Croatia be divided in less electoral units with more
representatives. This would enable representatives of smaller
parties to have a seat in the Sabor, and bipolarity of the
parliament would be avoided.
On behalf of national minorities Njegovan Starek proposed that a
regulation according to which minorities are to elect their own
representatives in an electoral unit made out of the entire
Croatian population.
