ZAGREB, Oct 26 (Hina) - The second volume of the encyclopaedia about
Miroslav Krleza, one of most famous Croatian men-of-letters, was
presented in the Lexicographic Institute named after him, in Zagreb
on Tuesday.#L#
The institute's head Dalibor Brozovic, and the editor-in-chief of
"Krlezijana", Velimir Viskovic, spoke about this encyclopaedic
project by which the institute has paid tribute to its founder,
erudite Miroslav Krleza (born in 1893 and died in 1981).
"Krleza was a complex person. He worked on several tracks and it was
difficult to collect all facts which can offer a complete picture
about him," said Brozovic during the promotion to the volume
covering from M to Ž letters.
He added that it took much time to complete this two-volume
encyclopaedia about Krleza (called "Krlezijana), but it was worth
waiting.
Brozovic added that he was especially pleased that by this edition
Krleza entered a small circle of world-known persons who got their
own encyclopaedia.
A monograph is usually enough to process the work of one writer, but
for Krleza we needed an encyclopaedia, Brozovic added.
Vergil, Dante, Shakespeare, Beethoven, Liermontov, Pushkin and
Goethe have received their own encyclopaedias so far.
Speaking about long painstaking work on this project which engaged
many art historians, critics and those who study Krleza's work,
Viskovic said this encyclopaedia is not only for those who admire
Krleza but for all who would like to receive more information on
Croatian culture and history.
This encyclopaedia is actually an encyclopaedia of Croatia's
history and culture in the 20th century," Viskovic added.
"Krlezijana" tackles all important texts written by Krleza, genres
he used, his attitude toward language, the national issue, Croatism
and Yugoslavism, conflict among the left writers, his attitude
toward Croatian institutes. At the end of the encyclopaedia, an
extensive biography of Krleza is given.
The first volume of "Krlezijana" was published in 1993.
