Gavran's literary work was presented by Kata Frankovic from
Budapest, who said Gavran's novels, plays, stories for youth and
children, and teaching and theatrical work make him one of the most
versatile and productive of Croatia's contemporary writers.
Frankovic reminded that Gavran has won numerous literary awards,
and that his works have been translated into 12 languages.
Receiving the award, a bronze medallion and a money bonus of one
million Hungarian florins, Gavran expressed satisfaction with the
fact that the jury recognised Central European tendencies in his
work.
He also said he hopes CET's future work will help Croatians and
Hungarians come closer and understand each other better, and that
important literary works will be translated from and into both
languages.
CET's Presidency, headed by secretary Andrass Meizei, emphasised
on several occasions CET's aim was to point out to the Central
European intelligentsia via the award-giving that it should
nurture and respect more Central European values and cultural
heritage.
Besides prominent writers, the CET gathers dignitaries from other
fields, and Hungary's public figures.
