The health system project has several parts to it. Its goal is to
improve primary health care, and a pilot programme will be
initiated in Koprivnica which, if it yields satisfactory results,
will be applied all over Croatia.
At the same time hospital and secondary care will be worked on,
especially concerning the prevention of coronary diseases and care
for patients with coronary problems.
Certain parts of the project concern public health and the
destruction of pharmaceutical waste.
The loan was granted for a 15-year payment period with a five year
grace period and the standard LIBOR interest rate, the world bank
said.
This is the bank's second loan to the Croatian health system. The
first loan of 19958 was used up by 1998 and was intended for the
renewal of medical equipment.
The agreement on the new loan should be signed Thursday by Croatian
Ambassador to the united States Miomir Zuzul and representatives of
the World Bank.
Since 1993 when Croatia became a World bank member, it has been
granted about US$783.5 million for 18 projects.
