ZAGREB, Oct 11 (Hina) - Representatives of five Croatian companies and of the Croatian Forests company on Monday signed a contract on the construction of roads to be used for fire-fighting purposes. In line with the 5.9 million kuna
(about US$843,000) contract, about 67 kilometres of new roads will be cut through forests on the coast and islands and secure the maintenance of 17 kilometres of existing roads. The construction works on the roads which make blaze sites accessible for fire-fighters and fire engines should start immediately, and their construction would improve the poor fire-fighting infrastructure, Croatian Forests assistant director, Tomislav Starcevic, said. The signed agreement is part of the Project of renewing coastal forests for which the World Bank granted a loan. In line with the US$45 million-worth project, 35 million dollars are intended for the purchase of fire-fighting aircraft
ZAGREB, Oct 11 (Hina) - Representatives of five Croatian companies
and of the Croatian Forests company on Monday signed a contract on
the construction of roads to be used for fire-fighting purposes.
In line with the 5.9 million kuna (about US$843,000) contract,
about 67 kilometres of new roads will be cut through forests on the
coast and islands and secure the maintenance of 17 kilometres of
existing roads.
The construction works on the roads which make blaze sites
accessible for fire-fighters and fire engines should start
immediately, and their construction would improve the poor fire-
fighting infrastructure, Croatian Forests assistant director,
Tomislav Starcevic, said.
The signed agreement is part of the Project of renewing coastal
forests for which the World Bank granted a loan.
In line with the US$45 million-worth project, 35 million dollars
are intended for the purchase of fire-fighting aircraft
"canadair", and the remaining seven for forestry work.
Forests cover some 43 per cent of Croatia's territory, and fires are
especially frequent and fierce in the coastal area.
