and eastern European countries increased by three percent this year
versus 1998, said the Austrian Economy Ministry.#L#
According to a study published by this ministry, Austrian direct
investments into those countries (without countries-successors to
the former Soviet Union) amount to 952 million dollars (12.21
billion shillings).
Austrian companies have given the biggest part of investment
capital (275 million dollars) to Hungary. The Czech Republic is the
second receiving 240 million dollars from Vienna.
Croatia, following the Czech Republic, has been given 165 million
dollars within Austrian investments.
Poland has received 98 million dollars. This year Slovenia is on the
fifth place receiving 77 million dollars, while in 1998 the biggest
investments from Austria were earmarked for that neighbouring
country.
In the wake of the economic turmoil in Asia, Austria's investments
in those distant countries have fallen evidently. Austrian firms
have raised investments in markets of nearby countries.
According to the amount of investments into central and eastern
European countries, Austria is on the fifth place, following
Germany, the United States, the Netherlands and France, the
Austrian Economy Ministry stated.
