PRISTINA, Sept 18 (Hina) - The Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) is
planning to stage a great military parade in streets of Pristina on
Saturday afternoon ahead of the deadline for its units' disbanding
set on Sunday midnight.
Official data on the demilitarisation of the KLA will be released
after September 19, and on Sunday General Agim Qeku will hold its
last meeting, in capacity of the KLA commander, with the commander
of the international peace-keepers in Kosovo (KFOR), British
General Mike Jackson. After that meeting a joint declaration should
be signed.
As of Monday, the current KLA military formations should act as a
civilian force called the Kosovo Corps.
Ahead of the final demilitarisation, KFOR commander, General
Jackson gave an interview to Sunday's issue of "Koha Ditore", a
newspaper with the greatest circulation in Kosovo.
According to the British general, Kosovo Albanians surrendered
arms to depots three days before the deadline. As of Sunday midnight
they should stop wearing military uniforms.
I know it is not an easy task for the Kosovo Liberation Army, as they
were fighting, but under the current political circumstances in
Kosovo no other force except KFOR can exist in Kosovo, pursuant to
the UN Security Council Resolution 1244, Jackson told the
newspaper.
Commenting on a new civilian force, the Kosovo Corps, Jackson said
it would be for urgent interventions and should be engaged in a very
important task of reconstruction of Kosovo.
