ZAGREB, Sept 9 (Hina) - "Croatian American Times" is a new American-Croatian weekly intended primarily for Croats living in the United States. The initial circulation of 10,000 copies will be distributed from New York and appear on
the US and Croatian markets on October 11. Seventy-five per cent of all articles in this bilingual weekly will be in Croatian and the rest in English, whereas editorial and political commentaries will be in both languages. "Croatian American Times" was initiated by its editor-in-chief Vjekoslav Krsnik, who also owns 25 per cent of the paper's shares. The ownership structure includes another ten shareholders who are US business people, Krsnik said. "The Croatian ethnic community is one among the few in America which do not have their own paper", said Krsnik, adding this was the main reason for starting the weekly. According to the last census in 1990, there were 560,000 Americans of Croat descent
ZAGREB, Sept 9 (Hina) - "Croatian American Times" is a new American-
Croatian weekly intended primarily for Croats living in the United
States.
The initial circulation of 10,000 copies will be distributed from
New York and appear on the US and Croatian markets on October 11.
Seventy-five per cent of all articles in this bilingual weekly will
be in Croatian and the rest in English, whereas editorial and
political commentaries will be in both languages.
"Croatian American Times" was initiated by its editor-in-chief
Vjekoslav Krsnik, who also owns 25 per cent of the paper's shares.
The ownership structure includes another ten shareholders who are
US business people, Krsnik said.
"The Croatian ethnic community is one among the few in America which
do not have their own paper", said Krsnik, adding this was the main
reason for starting the weekly. According to the last census in
1990, there were 560,000 Americans of Croat descent and it is
believed that there are 2.5 million American Croats, including all
emigrant generations since 200 years ago.
The weekly, which has a newspaper format, will have 16 pages with
analytical information on the life of American Croats and will also
cover the political situation in Croatia and the United States and
relations between the two countries, Krsnik said.
The weekly will be independent and its editorial policy will be
"liberal, with a mild social note and moderate neo-conservatism",
Krsnik said. The paper will be the alternative to the Croatian
press, which, Krsnik believes, is controlled.
