SARAJEVO, Aug 13 (Hina) - A Bosnian weekly in its latest issue
stated the war crimes tribunal in The Hague would indict Croatian
President Franjo Tudjman for crimes against civilians committed
during "Flash" and "Storm", military operations which in 1995
liberated Croatian territories occupied by Serbs since 1991.
In the issue which hit the newsstands on Friday, Sarajevo-based
weekly Slobodna Bosna says The Hague tribunal will also indict
Tudjman for the conduct of the Croatian Army and the Croatian
Defence Council during the conflict in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Quoting unnamed sources, the weekly further states The Hague
tribunal will expand the extant indictment against Yugoslav
President Slobodan Milosevic for war crimes committed in Bosnia by
Serb forces under his direct command.
Unlike Milosevic, who will be seriously charged in relation to the
Bosnian conflict, Croatia's Tudjman could, according to Slobodna
Bosna, face a so called supporting role indictment, for his support
to the aggression on the country.
The weekly maintains Tudjman's accountability will allegedly be
proven more easily. The Slobodna Bosna source asserts Tudjman "left
far more traces behind him" during the Bosnian conflict and was
directly responsible for military units which fought in Bosnia.
Milosevic's accountability, the weekly says, was an actual fact
because, though officially only the President of Serbia, he was the
most influential official in the present Yugoslav federation.
The indictments being prepared in The Hague allegedly rely in most
part on an agreement on the division of Bosnia which is claimed to
have been made in Karadjordjevo, Serbia.
Slobodna Bosna further says an indictment is being compiled against
General Ante Gotovina and several other high-ranking Croatian Army
officials.
The weekly's source in The Hague claims Croatia's defence strategy,
based on American attorney Rifkind's concept that "Storm" had not
been an international armed conflict, will not meet with any
attention.
Croatian attorney Anto Nobilo's claims that President Tudjman'
statements on the division of Bosnia were "personal views" will not
be accepted either, the weekly's source says.
