ZAGREB/THE HAGUE, Sept 8 (Hina) - A judge of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), Antonio Cassese, has announced that he will resign from the Hague-based Tribunal in order to resume his academic
activities at Florence University, the ICTY said in a statement released on Wednesday. Cassese's resignation will be effective on 1 February 2000, or as soon as the Kupreskic and others trial, which he is currently presiding over, is completed, the statement read. The ICTY President, Gabrielle Kirk McDonald has notified UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan about Cassese's intention. The Secretary-General will appoint another judge to serve the reminder of the Italian's term of office until 17 November 2001.
