UNIONS INSIST ON INA WORKERS' PROTECTION IN CASE IT MERGES WITH MOL

ZAGREB, Sept 6 (Hina) - The independent trade union of workers in power and chemical industries (EKN) and the union of workers in oil production (GSNK), support a possible merger of the Croatian Oil Company (INA) and Hungary's MOL, but they insisted that national interests as well as interests of employees be protected in that process. Unionists maintained that the state should hold at least 25 percent plus one share of INA and that the Croatian identity of INA should be also preserved. They also expressed their opinion that an act on the privatisation of INA should be adopted prior to the merger with the Hungarian firm. The current and former workers of INA should be able to have an opportunity to buy shares under more favourable conditions. In addition, a social clause stipulating that no lay-off can be done in five years should be included in a contract on this matter, said represen
