SLAVKOVCI, Sept 1 (Hina) - During the past several months, pyrotechnics of the AKD Mungos company removed mines from 531,570 square metres of agricultural land near the eastern Croatian village of Slavkovci. Another 448,000 square
metres in the area are soon to be cleared of mines. Vice President of the Croatian National Sabor Jadranka Kosor presented the president of the Vukovar Srijem County Assembly, Ljerka Javor, with a certificate on the completion of mine removal. According to Kosor, the mine removal project will enable the return and existence of returnees. Kosor stressed that out of 120 countries which signed the Ottawa Convention on a ban on the use of land mines, Croatia was the 12th country to ratify the convention. Centre Ivan Majdak, over 680 persons were killed or injured in mine
explosions in Croatia so far.
