PM says will send letter on ambassadorial nominations to President by day's end

VODNJAN, Aug 16 (Hina) - Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor said on Tuesday that by the end of the day she would send a letter to President Ivo Josipovic about the her cabinet's proposals for nominations for Croatian ambassadors in several foreign capitals.

"As soon as I return to Zagreb I will sign the letter, which is already compiled, and forward it to the President of the Republic, Ivo Josipovic, so as to solve that matter," Kosor said during her stay in the Istrian town of Vodnjan.

She said that the government, the Prime Minister and the President of the Republic, who participated in the creation of the country's foreign policy, must talk on this matter and bring it to conclusion to the benefit of Croatia.

She reiterated that more than a month ago her cabinet had sent its proposals for ambassadors' nominations to President Josipovic and that her government and she "are awaiting a response and a meeting."

We must opt for professionals who can promote Croatia's interests in the best possible manner, Kosor added.

The premier said that it had been irresponsible to leak some information about that in the media and she criticised media speculations about some of the nominations.

"It is very bad, it is very unprofessional, this must not be done, as this job must be brought to conclusion in agreement between the President and the government, behind the closed doors," she said, explaining that when a time comes for the publication of nominations, everybody must stand behind their decisions.

As for trends in the exchange rate of the Swiss franc in light of the fact that over 42 percent of housing loans and 47 percent of car loans in Croatia were pegged to that foreign currency, Kosor announced a new meeting with bankers by the end of this week.
