Gov't accepts Bosnian farmers' demands, protesters end border crossing blockade

SARAJEVO, Aug 8 (Hina) - The government of Bosnia's Croat-Muslim entity on Monday accepted a majority of demands of disgruntled farmers in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina for additional state aid for agricultural production, after which the protesting farmers decided to lift blockades at four border crossings between Bosnia and Croatia and end their protest rally in the capital of Sarajevo.

At an urgent meeting in Sarajevo today, the entity government decided to change criteria for incentives to be given to agricultural producers, resulting in additional grants for maize growers, fisheries, cattle breeders and vegetable and tobacco growers.

Farmer leader Mehmed Pasic told reporters the government's decisions were sufficient for the cessation of the blockade of the border crossings at Doljani, Kamensko, Izacic and Orasje.
