HDZ to discuss harmful consequences of Hebrang's statement

ZAGREB, July 14 (Hina) - The Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Vice-President of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) party, Vladimir Seks, told reporters in the Parliament building on Thursday that the statement by the head of the HDZ parliamentary club, Andrija Hebrang, that Croatia is going in a wrong direction, was politically harmful and incorrect, and added that its political repercussions would be discussed by the party's bodies.

Hebrang signed a book of condolence opened in the Parliament building in memory of retired general Djuro Brodarac, a former HDZ official and MP who had died in Osijek on Wednesday, saying among other things that Brodarac had given everything for Croatia, while the country had not given him any credit, and that his death showed that Croatia was steering in a wrong direction.

Seks said that the death of Brodarac, "a man who made a great contribution to the establishment and defence of Croatia", caused grief in Croatia, and that the HDZ offered deep and heartfelt condolences to his family.

Another HDZ parliamentarian, Frano Matusic, said that Croatia was definitely not going in a wrong direction. "Is the European Union a wrong direction?" Matusic countered in his address to reporters.
