ZAGREB, Aug 27 (Hina) - Top officials of Croatia's ruling party, the
Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), convened at the "Bjelolasica"
Croatian Olympics Centre in central Croatia to draft an election
programme and elect the members of the main, operative, and
honorary election headquarters.
Speaking to the press on Friday, HDZ spokesman Drago Krpina said the
party's officials will attempt to make a contemporary election
programme of which one part will reaffirm the results of HDZ's
policy of the past nine years.
The basic outline of the programme was set by conclusions reached at
the HDZ Main Committee conference of June 26, he added.
The election programme's second part will attempt to give the most
convincing answers to questions of greatest interests for Croatian
citizens, Krpina said, pointing out the programme will also attempt
to provide prospects for Croatia's long-term stability, especially
in politics and economy, and for strengthening Croatia's
international position.
The ruling party's election programme should be completed and the
election headquarters' composition elected by September 3 at the
latest. The programme will be forwarded to the party's Presidency,
and the Main Committee will formulate the final version in the
second half of September, said Krpina.
Commenting on The Hague Tribunal's report to the United Nations
Security Council on Croatia's alleged non-cooperation with the
Tribunal, Krpina said it was very probably one form of pressure the
aim of which was to exert indirect influence on both the mood of the
Croatian public in pre-election time and the electoral process
itself.
