of money in Bosnia-Herzegovina published in "The New York Times" do
not relate to international aid sent to the country, but to
resources in public funds, the US Embassy in Sarajevo said in a
statement Thursday.
There has been no mismanagement of funds granted by the United
States to Bosnia-Herzegovina as aid, because independent
inspectors regularly control the implementation of the USAID
programme and have so far detected no losses from the fund caused by
mismanagement.
Only a small part of the funds could be lost due to the bankruptcy of
the BH Bank and USAID loans which Bosnian companies are unable to
repay, the statement said.
The Embassy stressed the money referred to in the NYT concerned
losses in the budgets of the two entities in Bosnia-Herzegovina
caused by unpaid taxes and customs tariffs, smuggling, and non-
custom trade between Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina which was
conducted until this year.
