GERMANY DONATES 10 MINE DETECTORS TO CRO MINE REMOVAL CENTRE

ZAGREB, July 27 (Hina) - Germany donated 10 mine detectors to the Croatian Mine Removal Centre (HCR) in Zagreb on Tuesday. Deputy German Ambassador to Croatia handed over the donation to assistant of the HCR head Josip Tulicic. The donation worth DM50,000 is a proof that Germany did not forget Croatia, Tulicic said. According to him, Croatia has experts and knowledge for the implementation of the mine removal programme, however, the financial situation a limit factor. According to HCR estimates, US$2 billion are needed for the removal of over one million mines on 6,000 square kilometres. Given that there is a new hot spot in the south-east Europe, the attention of donators is now focused on Kosovo instead of Croatia. A Nobel Prize winner, Judy Williams, also pointed to that problem, and called the international community not to forget Croatia's mine fields. Also present during the handover
