MOLVE, Aug 13 (Hina) - The Croatian Farmers' Association (HSS) refuses completely the operational plan for this autumn's sowing, drawn up by the Agriculture Ministry. The Association described the plan as a one-sided document,
produced without asking farmers for their opinion. It is humiliating for farmers as it cannot motivate them in economic terms, the Association's steering board said on Friday. The Association insists on one kuna per kilogram of wheat as a guarantee price in 2000 in order to ensure the successful conduct of sowing this autumn. In addition, the price of fuel for farm machinery and fishers' boats should be 40 lipa (0.4 kuna) per litre of D2. The Association requested that the price of seeds should be determined in relation of 1:2 to the guarantee price of wheat. MOLVE, Aug 13 (Hina) - The Croatian Farmers' Association (HSS)
refuses completely the operational plan for this autumn's sowing,
drawn up by the Agriculture Ministry.
The Association described the plan as a one-sided document,
produced without asking farmers for their opinion.
It is humiliating for farmers as it cannot motivate them in economic
terms, the Association's steering board said on Friday.
The Association insists on one kuna per kilogram of wheat as a
guarantee price in 2000 in order to ensure the successful conduct of
sowing this autumn. In addition, the price of fuel for farm
machinery and fishers' boats should be 40 lipa (0.4 kuna) per litre
of D2.
The Association requested that the price of seeds should be
determined in relation of 1:2 to the guarantee price of wheat.
Farmers demanded the zero rate of Value Added Tax (VAT)on
reproduction material in agriculture.
The Association proposed to the Ministry to discuss together
farmers' requests on August 17.
Besides, the Association also insists on the consistent
implementation of an agreement it concluded with the Ministry on 30
June. Farmers claimed some tried to evade the deal. For instance,
business subjects paid soya at a lower price, the price of sugar
beet was calculated at the exchange rate 3.6 kuna for one German
mark without paying default interest.
The Association also asked to be immediately notified of a draft
agreement on Croatia's admission to the World Trade Organisation
and that a discussion on protection of the domestic production be
launched in this regard.
