SPLIT SUMMER FESTIVAL ENDS SPLIT, Aug 13 (Hina) - By lowering the flag of the Split Summer Festival and the presentation of awards "Judita" for best performances, this cultural event ended in the Croatian coastal city of Split on
Thursday evening. During the 45th Split Summer, which began on 14 July, 47 plays and operas were performed and two exhibitions staged. The award "Judita" has been granted by the Split-based daily "Slobodna Dalmacia" for the ten years. This year, "Judita" was given to the "Task" play by Heiner Mueler which was shown by Slovenian Youth Theatre (the Ljubljana-based Slovensko mladinsko gledalisce). Slovenian mezzo-soprano Zlatomira Nikolova received the award for her role of Amneris in the "Aida" opera. During the ceremony of closing the festival, the Split-based Croatian National Theatre's (HNK) orchestra, conducted by Niksa Bareza, played two works by Ludwig van Beethoven.
