ZAGREB, July 23 (Hina) - The operational plan for this autumn's sowing has been drawn up earlier than usual in order to help farmers, seed growers, manufactures of artificial fertilisers and plant protection agents to prepare
themselves on time for the sowing as well as to ensure that sowing will be done in a proper manner, said Vlado Bicanic, an assistant of the Agriculture Minister, at a news conference in Zagreb on Friday. Under the operational plan, 292,460 hectares, or 30 percent up from last year, will be sown this autumn. Under the operational plan, 292,460 hectares, or 30 percent up from
last year, will be sown this autumn.
In order to conduct the plan it is necessary to secure 130 million
kuna (17.5 million US dollars) for producing grains which are
covered by the system of stimulating the agricultural production.
Instead of giving only money, a part of the stimulation will be
ensured through giving reproduction material to users of
incentives according to their choice and needs.
According to another official in the Ministry, Ljubko Tabakovic,
the harvest of wheat has been near completion. To date, 482,000
tonnes have been cropped.
According to estimates of the Agriculture Ministry, the needs for
the next year amount to 460,000 tonnes. Despite all difficulties in
the last autumn's sowing and low crop yield, Croatia will manage to
cover its needs with the harvested quantities of wheat and supplies
by the next harvest.
With respect to the purchase, Tabakovic, said this job would be done
how the Government had decided. It is necessary to ensure 200
million kuna ($27 million) for this year's purchase. The management
of the state commodity reserves within the Economy Ministry is to
take a 200-million-kuna loan from the Privredna bank, while the
paying for the given wheat will be conducted so that 75 lipa (0.75
kuna) per kilogram will be given to producers 30 days after the loan
is granted, whereas the rest of 25 lipa per kilogram will be paid
after the commodity reserves' management sells wheat.
