OSIJEK, July 22 (Hina) - Mayor of Beli Manastir, Simo Stupar, enjoys
full support from Osijek-Baranja County in conducting policies of
the town's authorities, said Osijek-Baranja County Prefect
Branimir Glavas, on Thursday after his meeting with
representatives of the OSCE monitoring mission in Vukovar and Beli
Manastir (eastern Croatia).
A deputy head of the Vukovar-based OSCE (Organisation for Security
and Cooperation in Europe) co-ordination centre, Nikolay
Ratsiborinsky, voiced concern over recent developments in
connection with the Beli Manastir housing commission and with the
fact that the town's branch of the Association of Croatian Homeland
War Veterans pressed charges against the town's Mayor Simo Stupar
who is also the head of that commission as well as over delays in the
work of the commission.
Ratsiborinsky proposed that an interparty round table be held in
Beli Manastir, at which international factors should be present,
with the aim of "pointing to troubles, its causes and trouble-
makers," read a statement issued by the Office of Prefect Glavas.
Glavas welcomed this initiative and expressed readiness of
Croatian authorities to help remove those who are continually
making problems from Beli Manastir's authorities.
He denounced certain associations' complaints in the media about
the work of the town's authorities, adding that associations could
nowhere lead a town's policy and so neither in Beli Manastir.
Ratsiborinsky informed participants in Thursday's talks about the
intention of a few relief agencies to ensure considerable means for
the reconstruction of the public utilities in Beli Manastir after
the political situation in the town has been stabilised, the
statement read.
