SARAJEVO, July 15 (Hina) - Bishops of Bosnia-Herzegovina on
Thursday demanded the Bosnian authorities and international
organisations in charge of the implementation of the Dayton
Agreement to advocate more efficiently human rights, particularly
the return of refugees and displaced persons to their pre-war
homes.
The bishops forwarded a letter containing their demands during the
BH Bishops conference held in the Republika Srpska's city of Banja
Luka between July 12 and 14, the Catholic Press Agency reported on
Thursday.
The letter stressed that reports from all Caritas branches in the
diocese point to a very difficult social situation of refugees and
returnees, particularly elderly and ill persons.
The letter also points to unsolved political issues, the unsolved
problem of equality of all three nations in BH, economic problems.
unemployment, and difficulties during the return of property.
The bishops also expressed concern about the inconsistent policy of
the international community while insuring financial aid for
returnees.
We have reliable data that a large number of displaced Catholics
would like to return, and claims of certain international
organisations that Croats do not wish to return to their homes in BH
do not hold water, the letter read.
The BH Bishops' Conference fully supported Caritas programmes for
the support to refugees and returnees. The bishops, however, added
that the church cannot and does not want to replace other
institutions which should be solve fundamental life issues.
