ZAGREB, July 22 (Hina) - Employees with the Croatian furniture
factory 'Savric' on Thursday called on Premier Zlatko Matesa to
support their request that the Zagrebacka Banka, which holds 34 per
cent of 'Savric' shares, secure 3.5 million kuna (around DM890,000)
for advance payrolls for May and June.
Speaking at a protest rally in front of the factory's
administration building, the commissioner of the Federation of
Independent Trade Unions of Croatia (SSSH) for Zagreb, Mario
Ivekovic, announced another large protest rally for Monday, to be
attended also by 'Savric' workers from Krapina, Bregana and
Djurmanac.
The union will continue pressing the Zagrebacka Banka regarding its
obligations, since as the largest single shareholder it has to care
for workers, however, for that we have to seek the support of the
Government, which had secured three million kuna for the payment of
March and April salaries, Ivekovic said, calling on the protesters
to persevere in their demands.
The union will on Monday demand that the Zagrebacka Banka return
'Savric' shares and that the factory's fate be decided together by
the union and the Government.
Union representatives reached an agreement with 'Savric' director
Ivica Busurelo regarding the factory's plants which will not
operate during the protest.
After they completed the rally in front of the 'Savric' building,
the protesters joined workers of the chain store 'Nama', who staged
a protest in the city's central Ban Jelacic Square.
