ZAGREB, July 6 (Hina) - Workers of the "Savric" furniture factory,
on Tuesday morning blocked Krapinski Bridge, the Bregana border
pass toward Slovenia and Skorpikova Street in the residential area
of Jankomir in Zagreb protesting at the Croatian Government's
failure to fulfill their demands and ensure six million kuna (0.8
million dollars) for paying three salaries in arrears.
This was stated by a Zagreb commissioner of the Association of
Independent Trade Unions of Croatia (SSSH), Mario Ivekovic, who
announced the resumption of negotiations between Savric unionists
and Government representatives for Tuesday afternoon in the
Croatian Privatisation Fund (HFP) after they commenced talks
yesterday.
Ivekovic added in a statement that Savric workers at yesterday's
protest rallies in Krapina and Jankomir were satisfied with a part
of yesterday's agreement between their representatives and the
Government co-ordinator for rehabilitation, Nada Mamic.
The protesters were satisfied with the fact that a meeting was
scheduled between bigger creditors, the owner of Savric and the
union's leaders for Thursday at the Economy Ministry as well as with
the Government's acceptance to help employees which are likely to
be laid off.
They were, however, dissatisfied with a lack of agreement that six
million kuna be ensured for the salaries.
Further actions of the trade union will depend on results of today's
talks in the HFP, and Savric employees will be notified of them at
tomorrow's central rally in the Savric plant in Jukiceva Street in
Zagreb, Ivekovic's statement read.
About two hundred of Savric workers on Monday protested in the
Zagreb main square (Jelacicev Square) insisting on receiving
earned salaries for three months and on the inclusion of a
rehabilitation programme for the factory in the agenda of the
following session of the Government.
