ZAGREB, July 12 (Hina) - Croatian railway workers discontinued all
the traffic between 11.15 and 11.45 am Monday in protest at the
Croatian Rail (HZ) Management's demand that a court should ban such
actions of unions in which traffic is impeded. #L#
The HZ Management sued several HZ trade unions for having organised
a two-hour stoppage of the traffic on Croatian railway on April 7.
The Management claimed that unionists had violated the labour law
and the act on the HZ.
Today's protest action was scheduled for the time when the first
hearing was held in the Zagreb municipal court.
Unionists believe that the Management would like to deny their
right to stage industrial action, adding that the ban on trade
unions' protest would mean the breach of the Constitution, the
Labour Law and international conventions signed by Croatia.
Another reason for today's protest is the decision of the HZ
Management to lay off a certain number of workers as well as a slow
investigation in the attack against a leader of engine drivers'
union, Ivan Tolic.
Three trade unions of HZ workers staged Monday's protest.
