ZAGREB, July 9 (Hina) - Following the Friday interrogation of
former Croatian Intelligence Service (HIS) manager Tomislav Druzak
in an investigation against Miroslav Separovic and Mario Baljkas
for disclosing secrets of state, Separovic's attorney said the
state attorney's office should drop the charges against his
clients.
Separovic managed HIS before Druzak, while Baljkas is a HIS
employee, temporarily suspended on account of the investigation.
The two are under investigation on suspicion of delivering
confidential documents to weekly "Nacional".
"Now it is clear that Miroslav Separovic and Marijo Baljkas have not
committed any crime. The state attorney's office, were it a little
wise, would drop the charges against them," Separovic's attorney
Ivan Surjan said after Druzak's two-hour testimony before
investigating judge Dzenko Konjic.
According to Separovic, Druzak told Konjic he had no knowledge that
Separovic and Baljkas had given reporters any confidential
document, or that any document found in a HIS safe deposit box in
Separovic's flat had been published in the press.
"Druzak said he didn't even know we intended to do that," Separovic
said. He assessed that "every day, there is more and more material
evidence confirming (my) innocence."
Separovic said he stood by his statement that the proceedings
against him were initiated by Ivic Pasalic, an adviser to the
Croatian President and high-ranking official of the ruling
Croatian Democratic Union.
"But it's not only him, there are others," Separovic said.
Druzak, who promised a statement earlier today, gave none to the
press.
