SPLIT, July 9 (Hina) - An agreement on a DM100 million loan for the
technological reconstruction of Croatia's shipping industry was
signed in the southern Croatian port of Split on Friday.
The agreement was signed by Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and
Development (HBOR) president Anton Kovacev and administration
board member Marija Kolaric, and German reconstruction bank
Kreditanstalt Fuer Wiederaufbau president Andreas Uebeleisen and
administration board member Rolf Hans Gebauer.
Also present at the signing were Croatian Shipping Industry

According to Kovacev, the loan is of outstanding importance for
Adriatic building slips, which underwent the last technological
reconstruction in the late 1970s. The loan is intended for the
purchase of state-of-the-art equipment which, Kovacev said, will
step up shipbuilding, lower costs, and increase productivity and
competitiveness on the world market.
The equipment for the technological reconstruction of Croatia's
shipbuilding industry will be provided by German manufacturers,
including the best known one, Thyssen Reisenthal Techni.
The loan has been distributed by giving a little more than DM22
million to Split-based "Brodosplit", Rijeka-based "3. maj", and
Pula's "Uljanik", while Trogir-based "Brodotrogir" will receive
DM8 million and "Kraljevica" in Kraljevica DM5 million. The
difference will be distributed by the end of the month.
Kovacev also announced a EUR8.5 million loan agreement the HBOR is
to sign with Italy's Banco Ambrosiano Veneto. He did not specify the
loan's purpose.
