WASHINGTON, July 9 (Hina) - The United States fully supports
Croatia's admission to the World Trade Organisation, said Robert
Gelbard, special US envoy for the implementation of the Dayton
agreement, during talks with Croatia's Ambassador to the USA,
Miomir Zuzul, on Thursday.
There are no obstacles whatsoever to the signing of an agreement on
Croatia's admission to the WTO, Gelbard added.
The US official suggested that a Croatian delegation meet
representatives of the State Department and US Trade
Representative in Washington, following a new round of talks on
Croatia's admission to the WTO, to take place in Geneva, on July 12-
14.
Gelbard believed the meeting could be an opportunity to solve the
remaining open issues and conclude the American-Croatian talks.
The two officials also discussed the interest of US business people
in investments in Croatia's tourism. Gelbard said the US Trade and
Development Agency would pay for the drawing up of several studies
on the feasibility of these investments.
Zuzul conveyed President Tudjman's invitation for Gelbard to visit
Croatia with a group of US businessmen.
Speaking about the political situation, Gelbard welcomed the
Croatian-Bosnian agreement on the border and expressed
satisfaction with Croatia's reducing contributions for the
Croatian Defence Council (HVO) and making the payments more
transparent.
The Unites States strongly supports Croatia's territorial
integrity and its stands on the issue of Prevlaka (Croatia's
southern-most peninsula). Gelbard said his country shared
Croatia's view that the issue of Prevlaka was a security issue.
The US official also praised Croatia's role and stands regarding
the Kosovo crisis.
