SARAJEVO, July 1 (Hina) - Bosnia-Herzegovina's Presidency members
and officials of Defence Ministries of the two Bosnian entities
exchanged information on assistance the armed forces in the Croat-
Moslem Federation and the Bosnian Serb Republic had been receiving,
said a spokeswoman for the OSCE in Sarajevo on Thursday.
The Madrid Conference on the conduct of the Dayton Accords obliges
the three sides (Croats, Moslems and Serbs) to swap information and
relevant data on this matter.
The OSCE (Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe)
spokeswoman, Tanya Domi described the fulfilment of this
obligation as a further step in developing the transparency and the
strengthening the mutual confidence.
According to data which the Moslem 8Bosniak) party made available,
the Moslem element of the Army of Bosnia-Herzegovina's Federation
received no separate foreign assistance. It used $152 million-
worth means donated by governments of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab
Emirates, Kuwait, Malaysia and Brunei.
This money was used by the federal Defence Ministry for the purchase
of arms and equipment and for the implementation of the "Equip and
Train" programme. The United States donated additional 231,174,400
dollars for the conduct of that programme last year.
According to Bosnian Croats, the Croat element in the federal army
received 117,200,000 German marks from the Republic of Croatia in
1998.
The Croats expect to get 100.5 million German marks from the same
source this year.
Bosnian Serbs notified the OSCE as well as Moslems and Croats that
the foreign assistance of 9,428,469 German marks for the army in
this entity had been sent from Yugoslavia (Serbia/Montenegro) last
year when it was used for payment of salaries for Bosnian Serb
officers.
A certain number of would-be officers of the Bosnian Serb entity's
army was educated in Yugoslavia and the Yugoslav Government had to
earmark additional 18.5 million marks for this purpose.
The OSCE spokeswoman stressed that this organisation had not
checked the given data.
