CROATIAN PARLIAMENT PRESIDENT MEETS CROATIAN FARMERS' ALLIANCE

ZAGREB, June 29 (Hina) - President of the Croatian National Parliament Vlatko Pavletic during talks with representatives of the Croatian Farmers' Alliance on Tuesday appealed to them to continue talks with Government representatives about solving the issue for which farmers, in protest, blocked roads. He agreed that those working must be paid for their work, but also warned that blocking of roads could have consequences on the tourist season. Stressing the importance of Croatia's accession into European associations, especially the World Trade Organisation, Pavletic said the alliance's request for forbidding imports was harmful to Croatia. He told the Alliance's representatives the Croatian parliament House of representatives could not at Wednesday's session discuss the farmers' requests, as the Opposition had asked for a discussion on foreign policy, and the Lower house must conclude its session Wednesday. The suggestion for a discussion on the demands of the Croatian Farmers' Alliance, that is, the Government's report on the requests, were forwarded into parliamentary procedure by the Croatian Peasants' party bench Tuesday.
