KARLOVY VARY, June 23 (Hina) - Foreign Ministers of 16 member-states of CEI (Central European Initiative) will hold a meeting in the Czech town of Karlovy Vary on Thursday to discuss latest political and security developments in the
region and a role of the CEI within the Stability Pact in Southeast Europe. The Czech Republic, which is currently holding the chairmanship of the CEI, is the host of this meeting. A delegation of Croatia that chaired the organisation before the Czech Republic, is being led by Foreign Minister Mate Granic who is expected to come in Karlovy Vary on Wednesday afternoon. The CEI ministerial gathering is to end by adoption of a joint statement on Kosovo and a joint statement which will endorse the CEI role within the Stability Pact. The Czech Republic, which is currently holding the chairmanship of
the CEI, is the host of this meeting.

The host has announced that present at the event will be
representatives of the European Commission, the European Bank for
Development and Reconstruction (EBRD), the OSCE, UN Economic
Commission for Europe, OECD and the Council of Europe.
During Croatia's chairmanship of the CEI in 1998, this organisation
offered several new initiatives and assumed new dimensions in the
fields of economy, social welfare and human rights. The secretariat
of the organisation was established in Trieste, and dialogue was
opened between the CEI and the European Union.
After the Czech Republic, Hungary will chair the CEI.
In addition to Croatia, the Czech Republic and Hungary, other CEI
member-countries are Albania, Austria, Belarus, Bosnia-
Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Italy, Moldavia, Poland, Romania,
Slovakia, Slovenia and Ukraine.
