ZAGREB, May 27 (Hina) - The heads of management of five leading
Croatian banks on Thursday signed an initiative for the
establishment of an economic interest association of banks, under
the working name Croatian Association of Banks, thereby
terminating work with a similar association at the Croatian Chamber
of Commerce.
The heads of management of Privredna, Rijecka, Splitska,
Varazdinska, and Zagrebacka banks explained the initiative with
the desire to restore and strengthen the Croatian citizens' trust
in the entire domestic banking system, which has lately been
considerably destabilised in certain banks.
The starting point of the new association is the realisation of
banks' general interests, which are founded on the principles of
independence and independent activity, reciprocity,
professionalism, social responsibility, and high ethical
standards.
The new association would be established without a basic capital,
and would be financed via membership fees of regular and associate
members, and their equal contribution.
