ZAGREB, June 9 (Hina) - Croatia and Italy fully support the
preparation and conduct of the Stability Pact, said deputies of the
Croatian and Italian Foreign Ministers, Ivo Sanader and Umberto
Ranieri respectively, after their meeting in Zagreb on Wednesday.
"Croatia has endorsed the elaboration of the Stability Pact, as it
has enshrined, since the very beginning, several principles which
Croatia has advocated," Croatian official Sanader said adding that
Italy also backed the same principles.
Sanader today received Umberto Ranieri within regular political
consultations.
According to above-mentioned principles, countries which have been
included into drawing up the Stability Pact since the very
beginning will take part in all working sessions, Sanader said.
Another important principle is that the European Union and the
international community accept the individual approach to
inclusion of countries into Euro-Atlantic institutions and other
integration processes, if some country insists on it, he added.
Assessing that Croatia should have a significant role in the
stabilisation of the region, Ranieri said they were sure that
Croatia should have a significant function in the programme of
stabilisation and reconstruction of the war-affected region.
We are glad that Croatia and the EU will establish the contractual
relations relating to the joining and stabilisation, which will
present an important step forward in respect to Croatia's inclusion
into European integration processes," Ranieri said.
He added that his country supported Croatia's bids to join Euro-
Atlantic institutions and would offer its help in this field.
Croatia is being engaged on harmonising its own legislation with
the EU legislation, and Italy and the international community know
to appreciate it, the Italian diplomat said adding that it
particularly refer to the electoral legislation.
According to Sanader, the Zagreb meeting also revolved around the
bilateral ties and the forthcoming official visit of the Italian
Foreign Minister Lamberto Dini to Croatia.
Sanader told reporters they had also considered the Adriatic
initiative being prepared by Croatia and Italy, and that its first
inaugural founding session should be held soon.
Commenting on the bilateral ties, Ranieri said Italy had received
the confirmation on the excellent ties between the two countries.
