CAPE TOWN CAPE TOWN, June 18 (Hina) - Croatian President Franjo Tudjman, who is on a three-day official visit to the Republic of South Africa, on Friday visited the South African Parliament in Cape Town, whose members were elected for
the first time in a democratic election in 1994. The South African Parliament consists of the National Assembly, with 400 representatives, and the Senate, which has 90 members. Members of the National Assembly are elected directly, whereas members of the Senate are appointed by the provinces' parliaments. At the second elections for the National Assembly in early June this year, the African National Congress (ANC) repeated its success from the last election, winning about 66 per cent of the vote. Last Monday, in line with election rules, the Parliament elected Thabo Mvuyelva Mbeki the new head of state. The man to replace Nelson Mendela was the South African Vice President. Pretoria last Wednesday, also met with the local Croat community.
After meeting the Croat communities in Johannesburg and Pretoria,
